Head bump - help!

So my 19mo ds bumped his head on the edge of the windowsill with a lot of force - he head butted it with his forehead (by accident) 3 days ago. He's got a bruise now.

He was upset after and laid on me for about 5 minutes which is unusual for him and was quieter for about an hour after but then perked up so I thought nothing of it.

He's seemed okay since but today he's been a bit quiet, keeps rubbing his head and squinting his eyes as if it hurts. I asked him if his head hurts and he said yes and rubbed it.

Do you think it's just the bruise? Or should I be concerned?

Any advice appreciated! Thank you

I'd say if he did it 3 days ago and has generally been fine in himself, his bruise is more than likely hurting and might be a bit swollen which is affecting how his eye /face feels maybe?

However, you know your child best so if you feel that his behaviour is a cause for concern, there's no harm in calling 111 and asking for their advice. You may end up taking him to an out of hours or gp streaming but if getting him checked will put your mind at ease and you feel its the best thing for him then I'd do it. Hope all is okay! X

He may have a headache has he had Calpol?

The bruises can be painful.

He hasn't been sick no?

Is he eating, drinking and wet nappies as normal?

Thank you for both the replies! I think I'm worrying a bit much tbh and it probably is just the bruise hurting! I'm sure my head would hurt too 😂

He hasn't been sick and has had some calpol!

It's understandable.

But if he's generally ok in himself and not been sick/drowsy etc they are the main red flags.

Hope his head feels better soon!
