Worried about 4 month old

Dd is nearly 4 months. Since this afternoon has been very unhappy, crying constantly and temp of 39.8. Has come down with calpol but still over 38. Her breath seems to be catching in her throat if that makes sense and is making a high pitched sound.

Have been on hold to 111 for over an hour. Should I just go to A&E? Don’t want to waste their time.

Yes.

She’s a baby, I promise you they will not think you’re wasting time. Grab what you need to take and go. 111 will only tell you to go there.

With that fever in an under 6 month I would go to A&E, I think that's what 111 will tell you when you eventually get through.

I took my then 12 week old in with a similar fever and we had a three day stay as they are always very cautious.

Also, you are never wasting their time with a LO that small.

Hope all goes OK for you

I'd just go to A&E.

The high pitched sound you describes could be stridor / croup. I would go straight to a&e or consider 999 with the breathing issue.

Thank you everyone. Am going to A&E. Never got through on 111.

Concerns about breathing = straight to A and E. I hope they are feeling better soon.

Raindancer411 · 13/02/2022 18:52

@Scout98765 Glad you are going. Anytime I have spoken to 111, anything for a child under one they would take you straight to A&E with high temps that high (or at least from my experience and what the paramedics told me)

Hope all ok, am sure it is, but I know the worry x

Scout98765 · 13/02/2022 20:45

Thanks again everyone. They’re clearly taking it seriously. Glad I came in.

Hope she picks up very quickly op.

How scary. Hope baby is doing ok and you're being supported too.

Scout98765 · 13/02/2022 23:05

Thanks so much, so glad I came in. They are clearly concerned and keeping us in for 36 hours and giving antibiotics. Dd is ok but very glad we’re here. Thanks again. Hopefully she’ll be on the mend soon. Shows I was right to trust my instincts!
