What does your baby wear to bed in the UK??

Hi

My little boy is 4 months and he currently wears short sleeved vest, sleep suit with mittens and 2.5 sleeping bag.

When we first go to sleep I find him snug but I always wake up in the night warm and worry that he’s got too much on, but he doesn’t feel too hot. I sometimes think just a long sleeve vest and a sleeping bag would be better. But they is this too little?

Thanks :)

My DD is 1 (tomorrow Smile ) and wears the same as your DS minus the mittens and our rooms get down to 16-17 in the night. I would have had her in the same as your DS age as well. Do you know the temperature of your rooms at night. Unless your rooms are Really hot I’d leave him.

I'd probably suggest the UK part is irrelevant as the weather up in Inverness doesn't match that of London.

How hot is your house? Have you got a wee temp thing to see what it is? Use that against the gro bag chart and you should be grand.

Have a look at the Lullaby Trust website but also use your judgement. I suspect they recommend a long sleeved vest with that tog of sleeping bag but it does depend on room temperature. I would also probably go for a long sleeved vest with that tog of bag unless it got very cold at night in the room.

My dc wears what yours does without the mittens and our thermostat is set to 16. Sometimes gets up to 17 due to body heat in the later morning.

Why the mittens? (How have you not lost all the pairs by 4 months?!) Cool hands is fine.

Coley888 · 13/02/2022 09:01

Thanks everyone I will leave him as he is then. Oh and the mittens are attached to all of his sleep suits so I just put them on as his hands get cold xx

My DS is 3 months and wears exactly the same as yours Smile still with the built in mittens too, otherwise he wakes up with scratches all over his face!

Danikm151 · 13/02/2022 09:31

Hands and feet will generally feel cold regardless at that ages.
Most grobags come with a chart. I had a room thermometer to check against.
It’s better for baby to be slightly cooler, they will let you know if they are too cold.
HV told me a baby that is too warm won’t tell you and will stay asleep.

Bitofachinwag · 13/02/2022 09:33

What temperature is the bedroom?

dementedpixie · 13/02/2022 09:35

It will depend how cold the room gets as to whether its the right number of layers.
My 2 wore the same as yours does

GladysAndFred · 13/02/2022 13:10

My LO sleeps in a vest (long-sleeved or short-sleeved), a sleepsuit, and a 1 Tog sleeping bag. The bedroom is quite warm.

ColdShouldersWarmTummy · 13/02/2022 14:06

Get a room thermometer and then have a look at the chart on the grobag website.

Poppy709 · 13/02/2022 14:22

At that age I got a room thermometer and went exactly by this chart www.babycentre.co.uk/a25024140/what-should-my-baby-wear-at-night-infographic

Our house was quite well insulated so only went down by a degree or so overnight. If unsure, cooler is better than too warm xx

Simonjt · 13/02/2022 14:28

Long sleeve vest, sleep suit and a 1 tog swaddle bag (the arms ‘up’ type) based on the temperature we keep the room.

Sundayrain · 13/02/2022 14:33

Long sleeved vest and 2.5 tog sleeping bag, 1 tog if the room temp is over 20 degrees. Better too cool than too hot!

Amichelle84 · 13/02/2022 14:35

My 5 month old wears a long sleeve vest, sleep suit and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag.

Vicky1989x · 13/02/2022 15:01

21 month old wears a short sleeve vest, pjs (no socks) and a 2.5 sleeping bag.

Madmaxxy · 13/02/2022 15:56

Short sleeve vest, sleepsuit, 2.5 tog grobag. No mittens as she likes to take her dummy out and put it back in through the night Hmm
Hers is the coldest room in the house but doesn't drop below 17 now I've moved the thermostat in there
