DC is 9 months and has nearly grown out of the nappy sizes

DD is 9 months and is wearing size 7 Pampers Baby Dry. I've just noticed that size 8 is the last size within the Baby Dry range so I wondered what happens when they get too big for the sizes? Do you upgrade to pants/pull up nappies or something? I plan to start potty training when she's around 18 months or slightly before but for now she's way too young to start potty training (or is sheHmm)

I haven't looked around in the supermarkets properly but just thought I'd take it to MN first lol

My son is 15.3kg (was weighed on monday before his op) and is only in size 5. He is 5 next month. He had bowel issues before anyone jumps on me for him not being fully potty trained! No way does your child need nappies that size!

LuckyKitty13 · 11/02/2022 20:38

Can’t help on the nappies as we used cloth. But my daughter potty trained herself in 3 days at 20months. Never had an accident after those three days and was dry at night from a week later. Now 3 years old and she has never looked back!

BigRedBoat · 11/02/2022 20:39

My youngest was a chunky baby and I found the nappy pants (I used sainsburys mostly but pampers sometimes) seemed to suit her body shape better than the taped nappies. There's also less room for error with fitting them correctly.

My ds was day trained by age 2 but only because he showed signs he was ready. If they're not ready it will take much longer

Size 7 nappies didn't exist in those days

mynameiscalypso · 11/02/2022 20:39

To be fair, I can squeeze my DS is anything from a size 3 to something much bigger because you just pull it tighter. Doesn't mean they're the best size for him though.

Geranium1984 · 11/02/2022 20:39

Check the weight range on the nappy pack. My boy is pretty bug for an 18mo and we are on some 5's. We buy the pants but they are the same size as the nappies with sticky tabs.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 11/02/2022 20:40

My 2.5 yr old fitted into the size 7 for bed for a while. She was in size 7 when she started potty training at 22 months. She has been in the aged 4 to 7 nightime pull ups for a while.

ReadtheFT · 11/02/2022 20:41

@00100001 mine did yes. It was the norm up until a few decades ago. Perfectly able to climb on a step and sit on the toilet.

flowervest75 · 11/02/2022 20:43

This is so bizzare!!! Clearly I've been doing something wrong here (I have no clue what but I'll certainly get to investigating so I can find out what)

Thanks for the links for those that have attached it. I knew something didn't make sense here but I couldn't figure out what! MN to the rescue again. I think I'll get her weighed in the week and go by the guidance advertised on the nappy packs and then go from there

Definitely a good plan but moving forward you only need to move them up a size if they are leaking often. Sometimes even the the weight limit isn't reflective of what size they need and chances are it's more likely to be user error or a right vest causing the problem than them actually needing to change size.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 11/02/2022 20:47

Sometimes they leak if they’re too big too though - the leg holes are too loose

RedCandyApple · 11/02/2022 20:47

That doesn’t sound right,
My 4 year old still fits in a size 7!

Svara · 11/02/2022 20:47

What has made you decide that she needs a new size each time?

PinkWaferBiscuit · 11/02/2022 20:48

That should have said tight vest.

Antsgomarching · 11/02/2022 20:48

Dd is just over 2, 97cm and 16kg, she’s in size 6 pampers for nap time and sleep. She was day trained at 20 months, I don’t think 18 months is too soon.

Antsgomarching · 11/02/2022 20:49

We changed nappy size when there was leaking.

oopsyu · 11/02/2022 20:51

I imagine she's size 4, max size 5. I use pampers nappy pants and the waist is really soft and stretchy. My 2 year old is in size 6 during the night.

Svara · 11/02/2022 20:53

The weights for each size overlap to account for different shapes already. DS was in a 3 for ages and never wore bigger than a 4 as he was slim as a toddler. She shouldn't need a new size until she is at the minimum weight for that size.

FolkSongSweet · 11/02/2022 20:59

@00100001 my DS was potty trained at 17 months. It took 4 days. He could go to the potty himself. Depending what he was wearing he would sometimes need help with it but he’s 3 now and that is still the case.

It was absolutely worth the hassle not having to deal with disgusting nappies and it’s easier to pull down some trousers than change a nappy anyway.

Anyway, your baby is definitely in the wrong size OP.

flowervest75 · 11/02/2022 21:02

Wow guys. I had a pack of size 3 Pampers Baby Dry in the cupboard as I never got round to using it. I've just put it on DD now and it literally seems perfect😳

I sent a video to my mum explaining how I think I've been getting the nappy sizes wrong all this time and she said the size 3 fits perfectly. Seems to be size 3 maybe going onto size 4 in a couple of months.

As someone mentioned, I assumed the straps had to meet in the middle everytime and once that'd stop happening, she moves onto the bigger size. I also assumed the nappy has to cover their belly button and not be underneath it. Please don't ask me why I thought this!! No one told me this but this is how the nappy would fit when DD was newborn so I just assumed that's how it goes🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I knew something was wrong here but just couldn't figure it out. I'm literally mind blown and feel so dumb but thanks so much for all the comments. The links helped so much as I was able to run my finger through the size 3 waistband and through the leg cuff.
Can't believe it🤦‍♀️ I feel so dumb

❤❤❤🙈🙉🙊 Bless you!!!

Tdcp · 11/02/2022 21:06

It happens to us all op 😂 I'm glad you've figured it out, I was so confused when I read your post as my 7 year old is in size 7s !

PandaDander · 11/02/2022 21:06

You realise @flowervest75 this I being filed in MN history as that post.... FlowersGrinxxx

RussianSpy101 · 11/02/2022 21:07

Oh OP I’m so glad you’ve figured it out 😂😂❤️❤️

JemimaTiggywinkle · 11/02/2022 21:08

Glad you’re sorted OP!

Just as an aside, pampers are so expensive. Might be worth shopping around now you know the size. We use Morrison’s nappies in the day - about a quarter of the price of pampers. We just use pampers overnight as it has to last 12 hours.
