DC is 9 months and has nearly grown out of the nappy sizes

DD is 9 months and is wearing size 7 Pampers Baby Dry. I've just noticed that size 8 is the last size within the Baby Dry range so I wondered what happens when they get too big for the sizes? Do you upgrade to pants/pull up nappies or something? I plan to start potty training when she's around 18 months or slightly before but for now she's way too young to start potty training (or is sheHmm)

I haven't looked around in the supermarkets properly but just thought I'd take it to MN first lol

Think you've gone wrong somewhere! My nearly 4 year old uses pamper 5 at night

Xiaoxiong · 11/02/2022 20:28

Also is she crawling or walking yet? I had two very chunky babies who were both at their peak of chunk round the tum and legs until they started crawling, DS1 was cruising at 9 months and then slimmed down a lot round the thighs. So you may find that as she grows she may actually stay in the same size nappies for a long time.

OwlNoises101 · 11/02/2022 20:29

@LittleBearPad It's only unusual now because everyone on here trots out 2.5 to 3.5 years.
It was no more hassle than any other potty training. Both of them got it quickly.

This is what I'm starting to think. She's only 9 months and is not a chunk of a baby. She's quite long and has a big ish tummy but that's about it.

I looked at the weight of the size 7 nappies and it says 15+ KG! She was last weighed in November and she was 8.42KG. There's no way she's gone from that to 15+ in a few months. Unless I've been putting her in the wrong nappy size all this time (which I don't even think is possible) then I really don't know what's going on....

My DS was in size 6+ nappies at 7 months, and then he just stayed that size (he's 17 months now).

I found that his weight and general chunkiness was at its peak at that age but he got taller, started crawling/cruising. He was on the 99th centile from a couple of months old so he was/is a big boy, is that the case for your DD?

I'm sure you don't need to worry about it, she will probably not need to go up much more.

randomsabreuse · 11/02/2022 20:29

Babies tend to change shape as they start moving, my (chunky) 3 year old is in a 5+ or 6 pull up overnight. He hasn't changed size in a good year or so.

Rockandgrohl · 11/02/2022 20:30

My regular sized almost 4 year old is potty trained but still wears a night nappy...he is in pampers baby dry size 6 which are for up to 18kg...a 9 month old surely cant weigh more than 18kg to need size 7????

PinkWaferBiscuit · 11/02/2022 20:30

Unless I've been putting her in the wrong nappy size all this time (which I don't even think is possible) then I really don't know what's going on....

Honestly this is 1000x more likely than her needing size 7 nappies. Chances are you actually need to go down a lot of sizes.

www.pampers.co.uk/safety-and-commitment/nappies-and-wipes/article/pampers-nappy-size-and-type-guide

-Beyond checking to make sure the nappy suits your baby’s weight, there are four quick checks you can do to make sure your baby’s nappy fits properly:

-The nappy’s waistband should sit just under your baby’s belly button.
-The leg cuffs shouldn’t have any gaps. After the nappy is on, run two fingers around just inside the leg cuffs to get them in the proper position to help prevent leaks.
-After the nappy is fastened, you should be able to fit two fingers under the waistband. This means the nappy is fitted properly — not too snug, not too loose.

  • When you take the nappy off, you shouldn’t see any red marks.

@LittleBearPad

18 months is too young for potty training btw. 2.5 to 3.5 is more typical.
@LittleBearPad that's not too young at all. Most of the kids in my family have been potty trained around 18 months. Two of my friends who have 14 & 16 month olds just potty trained their kids successfully. If you're happy for your child to be in nappies at 3 years old then that's great for you but I'll start potty training at 18 months. This isn't what this thread is about anyway

Can you explain why you think the nappy is the wrong size?

LittleBearPad · 11/02/2022 20:31

You are stretching them out at the waist. I’m sorry I know that sounds patronising but I’m Confused.

When have you been going up sizes?

RS29 · 11/02/2022 20:31

@flowervest75 I agree with others OP. The sizing issue does seem a bit off! Is she soaking through them? Or is it the fit that you feel isn’t right?
My son is 15months, 98th centile for height and weight and wears a size 5 baby dry in the day and size 5 active fit nappy pants at night!

Toottooot · 11/02/2022 20:32

I think you might not be putting the nappies on correctly - if that’s even possible. No way your child has outgrown at 9 months.

RussianSpy101 · 11/02/2022 20:33

@LittleBearPad nonsense. My DD & DS2 were both toilet trained at 18 months.

DS1 was later but due to disabilities

dementedpixie · 11/02/2022 20:33

That size nappy didn't even exist when my 2 were babies (now age 18 and 15). Sounds like you have put her in a nappy that's far too big. Try one in her weight range instead or try a different brand

flowervest75 · 11/02/2022 20:33

@rattlemehearties

Are you sure you're doing them up right? My 5yo was wearing size 6 until recently (finally night trained now) so I think you might be using larger sizes than you need? Sainsbury's is a good brand for bigger kids ime
@rattlemehearties this is what I'm starting to think! Maybe I've been buying nappies that are far too big for her but they seem to fit her properly all this time?? I'm so confused lol! What is going on

My 6 year old still has pull ups at night and she's in size 7!

IWasFunBeforeMum · 11/02/2022 20:34

My 4 year old is still in the 6+ ones. 7 seems very large for a 9 month old. However to actually advise you I did seen some 'teen' nappies up to age 14 so ones bigger than 7s do exist.

00100001 · 11/02/2022 20:35

The 14/16m were fully potty trained at that age. How did they get their trousers off themselves? How did they communicate their need to go?

JemimaTiggywinkle · 11/02/2022 20:35

Yes I think you might be doing something wrong here…My DS is 10 months, fairly average size and wears size 4.

Have you got any of the smaller sizes left over that you can try again?

LittleBearPad · 11/02/2022 20:35

Why have you been increasing the size? What made you think the previous size was too small?

Teenylittlefella · 11/02/2022 20:35

I had 4 kids and they all trained at around 3. None went beyond a size 5. My 3rd son was particularly huge - 10lb at birth, 18 lb at 12 weeks. Still never used a size 7!

00100001 · 11/02/2022 20:37

They were able to take themselves to the toilet, get undressed and do their business on their own at 18m with very few accidents?
