Hi I’m just about make a decision regarding senior school. StJohn v Surbiton High
Please advise if both Schools are similar academically. looking at the league table it is not that clear.

I’m looking for academic drive, but with a pastoral care. My daughter got sport scholarship for both schools and sport is important to her.
Thank you so much 😊!

Not a parent but a teacher. There seems to be a lot of changeover of staff at St John based on the number of adverts. It’s kind of infamous for it, at least in my subject area.

If this is how they treat their staff, I suspect it’s not the level of pastoral care you are looking for, if it is both a hothouse and there is a lot of changeover of staff.

Hi
Is Surbiton High academically stronger school than St John Leatherhead? It appears that St John performed better at last GCSE 2919 ( last official data). It is important for me to choose a driven school as my daughter probably needs that kind of force and I believe Surbiton has that reputation. But I like St John,s School pastoral care and more rounded approach. I’m finding it impossible to choose and only 2 weeks to go…
Andy feedback would be greatly appreciated
Thank you x

Hi

My DD is at Surbiton - higher up the school now. There is a real sense of stretch, challenge and support at SHS. My DD been really happy there and turned from an extremely shy child into a confident, articulate young adult. She's found her thing and has been stretched academically. The support has been really good - both from a curriculum perspective and pastoral - they seem to have two form tutors who work with each child. I don't know much about St John's - sorry.
It's ultimately down to where is a better fit for your child and only you can judge that. The other biggest difference is co-ed vs single sex. My DD and her friends definitely seemed to stay younger for longer, compared to her friends who went co-ed! Also consider distance and convenience from whereever you are based.
Good luck choosing.

Thank you. Very useful and lovely to hear such a positive comments regarding Surbiton .
I was wondering if st Johns School Leatherhead is much less academically driven than Surbiton I quite like the space and pastoral aspect of St John , but don’t want necessarily compromised the academics.
Thank you again !

Hello,

I wondered if anyone from Surbiton might be able to recommend a reliable cleaner please?
Moving to the area in August and unfortunately our wonderful cleaner can’t travel that far to continue cleaning for us

Many thanks Joel
