When to start chapter books?

I have fond memories of my mum and dad reading a chapter of The Magic Faraway Tree, and the likes, as a child. My DD is 5.5 and wondering if he will be able to remember the chapter from the night before. When did you start with chapter books?

It depends on the child. It was approx age 6 with DC1 and 7.5 with DC2.
