Hello all,

My baby is 6 months old now and I've been introducing purées (veggies and fruits) for the last month. I'n struggling to get her to drink water though Hmm any advice? She just doesn't like it and I think she should have a small amount to help her with her poop? If you could give me any advice would be great. Thank you 😊

Not really an advice but my almost 1 year old is still struggling with water. I offer it to him throughout the day so he gets used to that but he’s not really interested. He drinks a bit and by bit I mean 40ml a day or so.

Following with interest. I’ve tried small baby sized glass shot glasses, plastic cups, sippy cup, adult sized glasses and a bottle. Occasionally he’ll sip (like twice in 5 weeks of weaning). Room temperature or slightly warm water tends to help.

They only need a few sips of water if they're still taking plenty of milk. I used the tommee tippee first cup for my 2 and offered a small amount of water along with food

I put some milk in the cup to get her used to the idea. Then I watered it down, then switched to water. Can't remember how long it took, but I don't think very long.

I tried a few different cups - stuck with same one for a week at a time so DS had a proper chance to get used to it. He still doesn't have a lot but I only worried if his poop got hard. He eventually started sipping from a tommee tippee cup. Then he learned he could tip it upside down. He still drinks best from a doidy cup but munchkin 360 is the compromise for fluid intake vs mess. At 6mo he wasn't actually drinking any I don't think! Just keep offering - it takes time.

I thought my baby (7.5mo) would never get the hang of it but he loves drinking out of his doidy cup now with assistance of course.. and the shower head in the bath! Grin

Neither of my children would drink their water from anything other than a bottle during the first few months of weaning. Both were happy with 360 cups from about 10 months old though.

I find that at the beginning of weaning, they are still getting enough fluid from their milk and food (especially fruit and veg) so don't tend to drink much water. I always have a free flow sippy cup on the table - I like the tommee tippee flip up spout one best - and let them have a go with it. As they start to drop their milk feeds they start to drink more, as they are thirstier and they've had some practice with the cup.
As long as they have frequent wet nappies and pooping ok, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Just keep going, either cup ot try a diffetent bottle. Don't fall into trap of squash or flavoured water, you'll just create a bigger problem down the line

Just make sure it's available at each mealtime and, as they get less interested in milk, they'll drink more of it.
At a year we got a Tommee Tippee sports type bottle (non-spill) and had that around throughout the day at home and when we were out which meant she could get water whenever she wanted it. She now has it next to her bed at night in case she needs a drink.
