Unproductive evenings

Is it normal to do nothing but crash on the sofa once DC are in bed?

I'm feeling so lazy and that seeing as DC go to bed at a reasonable time I should be doing something useful with this time but I just can't.

I have a 4 month old and a 4 year old. The 4 month old has me up at least once a night, a lot more the last few days so that probably doesn't help my energy levels.

Once a week I'll go to an exercise class in the evening but the rest of the time I finish washing up, have a quick tidy round and am on the sofa being useless from about 8.30pm.

I am very productive and a master multitasker during the day but still it feels like I am wasting 2 or 3 hours away everyday. But I just can't, I'm fried.

Is this normal?

I think you're doing more than normal. Once baby is sleeping through the night you may want to do more but before then I would just want to chill and have an early night.

Your mind and your body are telling you two different things. Your rational mind knows you usually do more, but your body is telling you to rest, which leads to that guilty feeling.
Your body knows best in this instance. Otherwise, you’ll push yourself until your burn out and you’ll be no good to anybody.

My favourite quote comes to mind “Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time”

Thank you! I think that part of the problem is that I don't really enjoy them as I am quite bored, but just don't have the energy to do anything different..

I wish I could just go to bed early and get some sleep in the bank but struggle to fall asleep on demand, argh!
