Bedtime tearing me apart!

My son is a few months away from turning two. Every night before bed we have milk, then a five minute cuddle and then it’s cot and lights out. But every time I start to leave the room he stands up and starts asking for a cuddle and I feel so guilty leaving him! Sad On the other hand when I do leave without a cuddle, he’s generally asleep within a couple of minutes, and I don’t want to prolong bedtime any more than I need to. Am I being cruel?

Ime an extra cuddle will lead to lots of extra props needed.
Promise him lots in the morning instead..

I think if it was me I'd take the path of least resistance and cuddle him, but then I am lazy. He's doing really well that he can just go to sleep by himself at that age anyway. I reckon most 2 year olds would need a parent to lie with them or hold their hand til they fell asleep.

Thanks for the replies. I’m worried that if I don’t give more cuddles he will think I don’t love him or be sad/frightened Sad

An extra cuddle will turn to 2 then a drink. Then out of the cot..
Then your already great routine is screwed...

Oh god OP. Mines 2.5 right now and every night it's "want kiss and cuddle and high five", so I do, then she calls me back in. "Want kiss and cuddle and high five", repeat for the next 20 minutes. So I'd leave it as you are and don't feel guilty!

"no mummy has loads of jobs to do now, lie down and I'll check on you in 5 minutes"

Pour wine, sit on sofa.
