Nappy pins.

Having had numerous comments from others watching me still using pins with terry squares, I wondered if I'm the only mum who still prefers them. Surely I'm not, or am I ?

i prefer nippas

juuule · 30/12/2007 21:53

I used them with my last baby (she's now 4) so don't know if that counts. I did use nippas aswell. I like a bit of variety

Washersaurus · 30/12/2007 22:07

I use nippas - I would probably injure myself badly (never mind the DC's) if I attempted the use of pointy pins

I use nippas when required to but would have tried pins if I could have found any I guess. One problem I have with Nippas is that I change DD on the floor and if I'm not concentrating and put the nippa face down on the carpet it takes an age to release it.

DD can escape the change mat in a millisecond so it's poppers for us whereever poss

DontDreamItBeIt · 30/12/2007 22:23

I did with dd1 and 2 (now 7 and 8) but use aplix or poppered nappies for ds. I can't get to grips wih nippas at all and would still use pins over them though.

I've always used pins with terry nappies. I just can't get the hang of nippas, which imo are no good when you need to secure the nappy each side, as you do with a nappy fold like the "kite". Coby, you say you would have tried pins if you could have found any, but you can get them easily from Boots, Mothercare, any good chemist, or even eBay. The problem I've had is finding those much larger size nappy pins for use with a night time nappy. Boots used to sell them for use with their larger size night time terry squares, but for some reason don't do them anymore. I've still got four which a friend gave me, which I use for DS1s night nappy. They're really good for sliding through several thicknesses of nappy fabric, but they're getting a bit blunt now, so if anyone knows where you can buy them, please post it on this thread.

I prefer pins, found nippas useless.

Dodaday · 31/12/2007 14:57

Anyone know where to buy the larger size nappy pins?

coby · 31/12/2007 20:40

Dodaday - my 'local' boots and mothercare don't tend to sell pins or even nippas. The Boots occasssionally stocks them but apparently they are not a 'regular order' whatever than means . The Mothercare is awful for cloth nappies, went there today and all they had in the real nappy section was various brands of nappy soak and one bambino mio trial kit in medium (which is exactly what they had 3 weeks ago when I last visited!). Was suprised to find no smart nappies, but they did have the smart nappy soak .

Never seen nappy pins on eBay despite much buying and selling activity in the nappy section but then that said, I didn't think to look there at the time.

Eventually got some proper nappy pins for a client quite recently in my local fabric shop - might be worth trying one local to you for the lage sized ones.

The only ones you seem to be able to find now are the prym ones that they have in sewing/craft shops - any I've had from baby type shops in the past have been blunt and neither use nor ornament

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 31/12/2007 20:46

I used pins and preferred them to nippas.

juuule · 31/12/2007 21:50

Some on Ebay. Might be okay.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 31/12/2007 23:40

On the occasional time that I needed something to fasten a nappy, I preferred the pins! I never got the hang of nippas and had them come undone at times (if the nappy wasn't super fluffy - i.e. line dried) and ended up hurting my little girl. So yeah, pins for me! I tried pinning prefolds but they didn't seem to be big enough to go round my babies. So I just prefer aplix/velcro/popper nappies!

The nappy pins juuule has seen on eBay look larger than normal and worth investigating. Thanks
