Newborn nappies leaking

My son is 3 weeks and his nappy keeps leaking at night up his back. I've tried making sure his willy is pointing down, getting the nappy as tight as possible and a few different brands but it keeps happening. Any ideas?

Try the next size up at night. Worked with all 3 of my girls.

Try different brands - sometimes different brands seem to fit different babies better or worse

What size are you using? We had this and sizing up helped!

Bigger size

We're using size 1 at the moment, he's only 7lb 6 and has pretty skinny legs so I thought size 2 might be too big but will give it a go

Are you pulling the ruffles out around his legs?

This happened to us a lot when my son was newborn. It gets better as they grow. I'd usually get a size up as they have more absorbancy but then could be a bit loose. My sons weight seems to always be at the bottom end of the range for the nappy that works best for us.
I would change the nappy with every feed at night

My son had really skinny legs and the wee just seemed to poor out of his nappy’s without absorbing! We got a reusable nappy and I put that on over the top of the normal nappy. He did grow out of it but I was constantly washing at the time!

Make sure its not too tight as well. I've found if its too tight it can cause gaps

Size up and one with a stretchy back (sainsburys are good)

We had this for weeks. Ds was quite slim and a small baby. Everyone said go up a size but the next size swamped him.

Midwife advised a few cotton wool balls in his nappy. They stay wet unlike a nappy but they also absorb instantly unlike a nappy and we were changing them so regularly anyway at that age. It definitely helped not having to change the whole bed.

Also nappy too tight can cause compression leaks.
