Feeding

My baby will be 6 weeks on Saturday and he's 10.4 as of now he was born 6.15
He isn't waking up through the night for a feed and when he does I will breastfeed him to which he soon goes back to sleep
He is on apatamil for the majority of the day but will breast feed when he wants it. He is having 5oz then falling asleep within two hours or so he is hungry again and will drain another 4/5oz! To which just before bed he can have 7oz which will make him last from 10/11am- 7-9am

Can I be over feeding him? Is he just being greedy?!
When I was pregnant he had issues with his weight and didn't put weight on as they expected

Yes you can over feed with bottle feeding. You need to make sure you are doing paced feeding to prevent it.

If you choose to increase breast feeding and reduce bottle feeding, you might be worried that he isn’t getting enough. But feeding frequently (and often having gaps smaller than 2 hours) would be common in a breast fed 6 week old. Also you can’t overfeed a breastfed baby. Your body will respond to his demand and your supply will increase to match his need. I don’t know much about formula feeding but wanted to give you a bit more info about breastfeeding in case you wanted to up it.

It sounds like he is having a big gap overnight so is taking all of his feeds in the day instead of waking through the night. I would look at how much milk is having in a 24hour period.

Son babies sleep through more quickly than others and if he wants the milk and isn't pursing his lips I wouldn't say you're over feeding him. go with your instinct and speak to the midwife to make sure but it sounds like you might have a good sleeper!

Yes, my eldest slept through from 6 weeks old and would simply stock up on milk through the day and sleep all night. He is a tween now and has always loved his sleep.

Thank you all, He has been sleeping all the way through the night since he was 3 weeks old but recently he has been wanting feeding more frequently he can hold out with no crying or showing that he wants a bottle when he's out in the pram. Sometimes I think it's out of boredom but he does drink it all and seems a lot happier I don't know whether he think it's a routine of waking up and wanting a bottle which can be 2 hours He has more formula than he does breast milk due wanting to stop He is putting weight on obviously going for 6.15-10.4 in less than 6 weeks but is that healthy?Smile
