I have the headache to end all headaches. I’m prone to them but I’ve not had one this bad for a while. Feel sick, eyes hurt etc 🤢 painkillers aren’t touching it.

I have a 15month old who wants every book in the house read on repeat all day 😭 the number of times I’ve already read Dear Zoo today is unreal 🙈

Tips and tricks for handling a wild child when you feel horrific? 😬🙈

Screen time? This is exactly the sort of circumstance to bring it out.

You can get YouTube videos of people reading kids books (including Dear Zoo read by the author I think?).

@NuffSaidSam he honestly could not be less interested in the TV etc. Absolutely obsessed with books, mega blocks, a hammer and peg toy (😭), drawing and shape sorters but very much loves to play them with someone 😬

Oh god I have one of these - 16 months old and will not watch tv for a minute. His 3yr old sister is so much easier as she will sit there for hours if I am ill.
Can you take him outside anywhere he can run around in a puddlesuit while you sit with a travelcup of coffee? Thats my only strategy in these circs.

There's a cbeebies app that's good, would he play on your phone/tablet. Mine will sit for ages using paint on my laptop and typing on the keyboard. They say they are at work, it's pretty cute.

Lostthetastefordahlias · 29/01/2022 10:56

Or crawl/ toddle if he’s not walking?

onepieceoflollipop · 29/01/2022 10:59

Does he like baths? If so run a bath and let him play for ages doesn’t matter what time of day, you rest your head on the edge while watching.

Would a short walk/toddle tire him out and the fresh air might help your head a little?

Would he sit in the high chair and eat something that takes a while or play with things on his tray so you could sit or lie down near him.

Do you possibly have a migraine - if so pharmacy may sell you migraine drug imigran which is different to painkillers

Drink loads of fluid for your head - maybe lemonade if you don’t want much water, try and eat something starchy, make some toast for you and little one?

If she likes stories, perhaps try audio books or just accept it may be a cbeebies day!
ihateliningup · 29/01/2022 11:09

What painkillers have you had? Any aspirin?

If you're a regular coffee drinker then don't touch caffeine but if not try a coke or a coffee with a sugar.

If you lie on the floor with a pillow will he play next to you or climb on you for a bit?

With tv I think you just have to find a show that is of enough interest to him! Or try a YouTube of someone reading books?

@Lostthetastefordahlias Oh he’s definitely a walker (prefers running 😅) - he walked at 10.5months. We’re in the west coast of Scotland and are currently being battered by a storm (trees etc down) so outside is a no-go or else I’d have him at the park already 🤣

@onepieceoflollipop Bath is a good idea! Thanks 😊

For all the TV suggestions - he just doesn’t have any interest in it 🙈 he literally won’t sit still and watch something. The only time he sits still is for his books 🙈

Paracetamol, ibuprofen and Solpadeine are all I have in the house 😬

I really feel for you. My eldest would never watch T V either. Or play on his own. I had to be involved. It's exhausting and relentless. How about playing doctors? You could be the patient and at least lie down. Perhaps he could bandage your leg or something that would take a while?

Play some games. Sleeping lions and make it take ages!

Could you put him in the pushchair and go for a walk? Do anything you can to tired him out a bit, so at least he'll have a long nap when it's time?

@PeppaPigWorld Hes amazing and such a smart and active little boy but it’s definitely difficult on days like this 😬😓 We’re mid-storm where I am. Torrential rain and wind, trees down etc so it’s not an outdoor day at all unfortunately! We’re just doing lunch and then hopefully he’ll settle for a nap. We’re on the transition from 2 naps to 1 so you never know what you’re going to get. He refused his morning nap today so hopefully he’ll do a decent nap this afternoon 🤞🏼

Can you get to a chemist and get some sumatriptan. Its a miracle when pain killers dont work. Its worth the trip out! Hope you feel better

Caffeineandhope · 29/01/2022 14:14

Sounds so much like my toddler Flowers hope you feel better soon op

Home made salt dough.. .if you have flour and the will to make it? Or failing that sensory play with spaghetti (cold) or any oats/pulses? Chuck in a few of his cars/diggers

Put out some newspaper to limit the carnage?

Or shaving foam or bubble bath and make a car wash? Or dinosaur wash?

Sorry op really feel for you xx

@amidsummernightsdream @Caffeineandhope Thanks guys ❤️ I ended up not even being able to bare looking at the phone screen because of the light so I never got back to the thread!! Still a bit of a lingering headache today after a rough night with DS 😬 but nevermind! Off to work I go 😅
