Travel cot

Forgive my ignorance on such things!

Looking to get a travel cot to have over the grandparents / for us if we go away.

The flimsy crappy little mattress at the bottom, is that really all they sleep on or is it worth buying a mattress or something?

It’s worth buying a mattress for it! One set of grandparents bought one and one didn’t! It makes such a difference!

Yeah we bought a mattress. Probably okay for naps but didn’t want to risk it for overnight sleep.

My other advice is get them used to sleeping it in it in their own bedroom.

Totally worth a mattress!

TreaclePlum · 28/01/2022 18:35

Next question...a foldable sort of thin mattress (5cm deep) or a bed sort of mattress?

We just use the original mattress in ours. DS sleeps just fine. He's actually had some of his best nights in the travel cot! You have to put the original one in anyway as it's a structural part of the cot and I read that if you add a mattress be careful that there's at least 50cm from the top of the mattress to the top of the cot so they can't climb out/ knock the cot over.

I think the recommendation would be to get the mattress made by the company for that specific cot. Other ones may not fit properly and may be unsafe.

We have the extra mattress (approx 5cm) which is fine but a couple of times in hotels all that’s been provided has been the one which is like a hard board but she slept fine on it anyway!

I preferred a proper mattress because my DS found it easier to pull up the foldable ones 🤣

We bought a travel cot in the same dimensions as our actual cot; then bought another mattress to go in the travel cot. That way, we can use exactly the same sheets for both and I think it made her feel a bit more at home

I got the mattress from the same company that done the travel cot.
Red kite.
