Anyone gone to uni but not college?

I am going to try to get into an adult nursing diploma course for September 2005.

I have the right qualifications, GCSEs which were done a while ago, but a recent NVQ 2 in care which means I have studided in the last 3 years, but that was done pretty much entirely at work. I also have 8 years care experience, 4 of which have been spent in hospitals. I have spoke to the admissions department and they have said that I have the ideal background and should not have too much trouble being accepted.

But everyone I speak to (and see on here) either went to uni straight after school or college or did an acess course. I know a lot about working in healthcare, but I am scared that I won't have enough book knowledge. I am not stupid, but what if everyone is much cleverer than me?

Jenni, don't worry. Your qualifications and experience sound absolutely fine. It's not in the interest of the university to give false hope to prospective candidates, so if they've said you're okay, you're okay

But how about taking some evening classes or a short course if you still feel unsure? It would give you a bit of a re-introduction to study without having to go the whole hog and do a full access course. Maybe a short Open University course? You can do that in your own time and I know they do 10-point short courses - have a look on their website.

I'm a mature student at Uni, although I'm off until Jan had DD in July. Anyway I did do an access course to Teaching, because I left school 22 years ago, the access course helped with writing skills for essays and so on, but I found that the Uni holds classes on writing skills so I feel I wasted a year.
