Toddler torn thumnail

Morning all,

My DS (nearly 2) has somehow torn his thumbnail. The tear is about halfway down the nail and goes across from one side almost to the middle of the nail. We noticed it at bathtime last night, and between then and leaving for nursery this morning, he's got through five plasters - just won't keep them on. He's literally never had one before, so I'm not entirely surprised!

What can I do about the thumbnail? I don't want it to catch and tear off suddenly, but it's going to take weeks to grow out?!

Feels like a stupid thing to bother the GP with, I think?

Thanks, CMM

XH cut his nail across on a slicer, right across thé middle. Sounds weird, but de put superglue on it, and it was fine until thé nail regrew. They use it for skin grafts not stitches

What about those sticky paper stitches instead of plasters? Might help stick it down better to stop it catching & probably wouldn’t come off as easily as a plaster. You can order them on Amazon, we have the 3M brand ones & they’re great

That's a great suggestion, thanks @CoffeeMonkey! I'll look those up for reference. The problem actually sorted itself at nursery! The plaster had come off again, it did catch and the loose piece came off, no bleeding and looks like no damage to the nail bed - phew!
