Weaning causing tummy troubles!

Hello all! FTM here to a soon-to-be 7 month old! We're almost a month in to our weaning journey and whilst our DD has taken well to solids we've been finding the after effects of it quite tough!

My DD has CMPA and a newly discovered egg allergy, so I'm dairy and egg free (she is EBF). But since weaning, her tummy has been horrendous! Every night she is waking up with terrible wind, from about 2/3am. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to what she's eating as it's happened almost every night since we've began weaning.

I guess I'm wondering if this is normal or not!? I expected some wind as her stomach adjusts from solely milk to some solid food - but I didn't think it would be pretty much every night.

I just hate seeing and hearing her in so much discomfort! It means we're all getting no sleep either! Any thoughts or other's weaning experiences would be very much appreciated! Thank you! Xx

I should add we are seeing a dietitian in Feb and are waiting for a referral to the allergy clinic xx

I have two multi allergy DC so I can't say if it's normal-normal but it's certainly been the case that my DC have had upset stomachs and weird nappies for the first few months of weaning which were not extra allergies, and symptoms resolved after a few weeks or months once they were eating more.

I think with an allergy child you need to decide what is an allergic reaction and what is a non-allergic response to foods. For me it was blood in the stool and eczema.

I found probiotics helped as well as the introduction of more foods which helped bind things together. I also suggest blw as it's gentler on the stomach IME.

Are you following weaning protocol for allergies? I.e., one food type every three days?

@Adatwistscientist that's good to know that you had a similar experience when weaning your DV - this just feels like a whole new world to us and add in allergies we find ourselves overthinking everything!! Her allergy tends to be in the form of green, cheesy smelling stools and congestion after feeds. With the egg it was instant, she came out in a red rash wherever the egg had touched her! Happened within 5 minutes and cleared after less than half an hour, really scared us!

Yes I've been trying to stick to the slow introduction of foods before moving on to something new. Feel a bit like we've been teaching ourselves - HV wasn't very useful and just told us to feed her what we had!! And GP just directed us to dietitian but we don't see them until end of Feb, and hoping the referral for allergy clinic will be here by March!! Xx
