DS potential asthma

DS is almost 2, and has had a cough for 2 days. This morning he woke up and was really wheezing, you could see his ribs sucked in while breathing. He seemed happy enough but on the advice of the gp, we took him to A&E.

We've now been admitted overnight as his blood sats are around 90-91. They've given him salbutamol and he's much perkier now, running around and playing.

The paediatrician said it most likely is a post viral wheeze but the A&E consultant kinda alluded to it potentially being asthma.

I really hope it's a one off, but now that I think about it, DS has a history of coughing a lot when he gets a cold, so I'm now a bit worried it might be asthma. How do you get a diagnosis? Is it via the GP?
