Stopping toddler eye drops

My 2.5 yr old has currently got conjunctivitis.
She stared on ointment initially which she was accepting okish - we'd practice on dolly then just about manage to get around her eye but not in the waterline. I was concerned that her eye was getting worse so we were swapped over to eye drops.
Problem is that now she is really really battling them and closes her eyes so tightly that I'm not sure any actually goes in anyway.
We're having to restrain her and I'm on my own most of the time so it feels impossible. I've tried all the usual things - getting her involved, practice on toys, mummy has them, distraction, chocolate, tv etc etc but she's getting more resistant every day.

Has anyone stopped eye drops before finishing the course? I'm worried I'll make things worse but I'm really not sure she's getting them. She's now also becoming resistant to me even wiping her eye, lying down, changing her nappy - anything that involves me doing anything 'to' her. I'm also worried that pinning her and being forceful with her eye is making it more sore 🥴

It's been a few days and it's not getting worse, also not got loads better but I'm not sure of this is caused by us when having to be forceful ☹️

We're being super vigilant with hygiene - hand washing and changing towels / pillows etc

Help!!!!

I've previously been told by 111 nurses that the drops just help the conjunctivitis clear up a couple of days earlier than it would if it was left to run its own course. But if the eye was puffy and swollen around it then it may need antibotics.

When my little one last had it, he swapped it between eyes and back to the original eye but wasn't allowed anymore drops as it had been within 2 weeks.

I don't know if thats any help :)
