Potty training a stubborn 2 year old...

DD1 has been showing signs of being ready to stop nappies from 17mths. Has consistently told us if she has had a wee or poo,if we take nappy off she holds it in until she can be out of sight to pee. She will be obviously pooing in nappy but will refuse to take it off and try the potty. She happily sits on the toilet but only if she can brush her teeth at the same time. The past 4 nights her bedtime nappy has been dry in the morning but she will not try to sit on potty or toilet to wee. She point blank refuses to sit on potty unless she is offered a chocolate button. In oct she was really good and over a couple of days she used potty to wee more than the floor then her asthma went bad and we were in hospital for a few days so stopped.Since then she just holds it in.. So where do I go from here??

I think I'd just wait a bit. How old exactly is she?

She's playing games- ignore her & put her back in nappies but offer her the potty/loo at each nappy change.

Buy some pretty knickers ( let her help choose them ) & then put them away "until you finish with your nappies" No discussion or cajoling so SHE feels she has a choice.

Toilet training is the first thing to go when a child is ill/out of routine. Wait till the house is back to normal then take it from there but don't stress yourself or her, she'll get there!

Sorry that sounded harsh about playing games but YKWIM!!

bossybritches..part of the problem for dd1 is that she is often ill she has asthma and excema and constantly picks up some cold or cough etc that ends up on her chest and us going to gp/hospital so there is never a good time. I know she is young to be training but she has shown soo much awareness compared to ds who was 2.2yrs when he decided to train.

Leave it up to her. She's got enough to contend with if she's in and out of hospital. Let her decide when she's ready. As bossy says, let her choose some pretty undies for when she's ready.

now this is where I get confused this morning she has taken her own nappy off and had a dribble on the carpet then a huge wee on the potty..so do I still leave it?
