Started potty training with ds (2.6)this pm. He seems keen and is showing all the standard signs (tells me poo coming, sometimes goes into detail as to nature of poo he's done - yuk yuk yuk!! Sometimes has dry nappy for several hours etc.) But today he told me just as he was doing his wee so by the time we got to the potty it was too late.

Is this normal for the very first stages or does it mean he can't control his wee and is therefore not ready?

Should we persevere?

Also has anyone done a gradual training where their dc spends maybe 2 or 3 hours a day in pants and the rest of the time in nappies? He clearly understands the difference between pants and nappies so will he still get confused?

that's completely normal and he's still ready - accidents happpen when they've been dry for months! gradual training is fine, but one day you'll just grit your teeth and do the whole lot.i found choclate buttons always helped when their interest waned. good luck!

Sounds to me like he's ready. When I potty trained DD, I just took her nappy off and it was all done in 3 days basically. The first day, I didn't even bother putting pants on her and she wee-ed pretty much constantly. By day 2 she was wee-ing about every hour and a half and I was panicking that I'd started before she was ready, but by day 3 or 4 she was only going about every 4 hours. I think it takes a few days for them to figure it out after wearing nappies, it doesn't mean he isn't physically ready imo. Good luck!
