My DS Who turns 4 in April, is getting reoccurring thrush/ nappy rashes, drinks lots and pees through out the day and is skinny. Eats all his meals and snacks yet always still hungry!!

I spoke to the Gp today regarding his eczema today and mentioned about the thrush too which she advised he needs a blood test to rule out diabetes.

I have been so worried since then and been looking online and according to this he has majority of the symptoms! Been so worried since

Anyone else experienced anything similar with there child?

My son (now nearly 2) had blood tests in the summer for diabetes, after his childminder raised a concern with me about the amount of water he drank. He's always drunk a lot of water, and generally runs warm.

Blood tests came back totally clear. His dad is the same - drinks 4-5 points of orange squash a day and gives off heat like a radiator. It's obviously just how his family is built!

Don't worry about it. Re the tests, do use the lidocaine cream they suggest you get from the pharmacy beforehand to numb the elbows before they take the blood.

And if it turns out he does have diabetes, it is so well managed these days. I have friends with it, and friends' kids, and it really didn't limit them. It's something you learn to deal with, and the NHS will support you.

Take care xxxx

The GP should have done a blood test today. This can't wait. I've heard way too many stories recently of GP's making kids wait for blood tests, because they know the signs but don't know how urgent it is. Please make sure he has a blood test tomorrow, with all those symptoms he could potentially be in DKA. How long have they been going on? Do you know anyone with a blood test monitor you can use tonight?

@Zeddddy222, it's a fairly common childhood condition so IF your child does end up having diabetes you will both be well supported with some very knowledgeable staff.
one step at a time, get through the test.
