Is there such a thing as the perfect pushchair?

I am absolutely fed up of hunting for the perfect pushchair. My mind is boggled. Is there one that fits the bill??

Parent or world facing
Small folding, free standing when folded
Weighs under 10kg
Hardy wheels, doesn't rattle, 4 wheeler
Suitable for walks in the woods
Looks nice, comfy and cosy!!

I LOVE the M&P ocarro. I’m using a double atm, and love it too, the out n about nipper which I think does a single? That’s a great buggy too but not sure if parent facing

Melroses · 18/01/2022 20:15

No. I had five of them. None were right.

HalloHello · 18/01/2022 20:28

@jamsandwich1 I have the Occarro! I do really really love it but find it very heavy and bulky lifting into the car and it's really very bashed now on its 2nd baby 🤣 if it was lighter it would be perfect! 🙈

I found the perfect one for us when DD was 18 months old, out n about nipper, just pushes so lovely, it's world facing but has a window in the hood. Also three wheels, but I prefer that :) it's a shame there aren't places to really go to now to see them and push them around the store to test out

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 19/01/2022 16:53

We have the joie chrome - it doesn't fold and stand (it folds down but won't stand) otherwise its perfect. It has good big foam wheels (no punctures) and suspension - these were the reasons I bought it.

foobio · 19/01/2022 16:59

Uppababy vista? I didn't have one but was always envious! I LOVE my out n about nipper now though, but only world facing.

BertieBotts · 19/01/2022 17:03

No, you want conflicting things.

The better it is off-road and with hardy wheels the more it will weigh and it isn't going to be a small fold with these things.

Parent facing is great but tends to mean a more rickety frame as you have a piece that slots in and out. That also means the seat unit will be smaller than a one-piece model, so less scope to make it cosy and comfy.

Lightweight ones that are small when folded tend to be less cosy/comfy, and less likely to be good off-road or sturdy.

Buggies designed for fashion tend to skimp on techical aspects.

The Ocarro is around the middle of everything so probably is the compromise that you want. But lighter? It might help to get a second one perhaps so you can use the Ocarro in one situation and another buggy in others.

What about a BJCM with a plushy duvet-like footmuff on it? Lovely roomy seat, great off road, 9kg, easy/smallish fold. I can't remember if it stands folded - possibly. Not parent facing. But you could use the Ocarro for the times you want that. Goes cheap second hand.

This is a good grounding on different buggy types.

mummagirl · 19/01/2022 17:17

No such thing. With my youngest child I had access to and use of-

  1. Silver Cross coach build... Fab for walking miles until baby was well over a year
2.Quinny....fab for the car and holidays
  1. Three wheel jogging buggy.. Obvious!
  2. Maclaren...... Fab for shopping and holidays when he was over 9 months

All were fantastic for their use. Loved every one!
Also had twins a good few years ago
1 twin silver Cross traditional prsm

  1. Emma Lunga twin pushchair with additional seat for big sister
  2. Maclaren twin buggy... No frills just lay back.

Again all fab but no favourite

MyCatHatesPCRTests · 19/01/2022 17:45

The Mamas and Papas Armadillo Flip would meet most of your criteria. It’s not brilliant off-road but is better than the truly lightweight ones, and is a smidge under 10kg. We always lean it against the wall but I believe it’s supposed to be freestanding. It fits in the boot of a Seat Ibiza as long as you don’t want to take much else with you.Grin

MyCatHatesPCRTests · 19/01/2022 17:46

As someone said above, it’s rare to find a workhorse that does it all. I’d probably buy something bigger and sturdier that met most of those criteria (my friend has an Oyster travel system which looks great, and I always coveted an Uppababy but not sure how that would be off-road), and then get a lightweight compact stroller once they’re six months and can forward face.

Russell19 · 19/01/2022 17:49

My favourite was the oyster zero. Loved it.

I've got one and love it. Genuinely think it might be perfect! Freestands. Not sure of weight, but I'm not exactly buff and don't struggle with it. We walk out in the forest a lot and it seems smooth enough, definitely doesn't rattle. You can swap which way they're facing really easily. It has a built in sun shade, and a window so that you can see them if they're world facing. It folds up and down so easily. And the best bit is that I've got twins on the way and can convert it easily into a double, both at newborn stage and seat. All in all, I'm in love with it.
linerforlife · 19/01/2022 17:57

I have a Uppababy vista. It's sturdy, fine for my semi rural lifestyle, comfy, huge basket, stands when folded... but it's heavy and takes up a huge amount of my boot!!!

JustPickleRick · 19/01/2022 18:26

iCandy Peach All-Terrain
We got it in the colour Toucan and it was just perfect 😍 did the job and pretty to look at

amidsummernightsdream · 19/01/2022 20:23

If you like the Occaro but want smaller/ lighter, i have the M&P Flip XT3 and it has been superb. I think it would fit most of your requirements, compact but sturdy and comfy- even fits in the boot of my Fiat 500!
Not sure about the stands up when folded, don’t think it does that but it’s not something I’d needed

Dmsandfloatydress · 19/01/2022 20:29

Cossato to and fro . Umbrella fold. Parent and world facing options. Suitable from birth and lie flat. Very sturdy. I would have another one but no more kids for me! Used to push it in the woods with no issues. Not massively light though!

LemonDrizzles · 19/01/2022 20:52

I have two, a city and a country.

City is a joie mirus scenic stroller. Could be closed easily with one hand. Reclined flat so could be used with new borns. Did forward and parent facing. Got it half price from boots. Has been on planes with us.

Country is a sliver cross jogger. Massive. Goes through mud pretty well. Hand me down. Easily at least 15 years old now and still going strong. Takes up so much space in car, have to plan to do laundry part way for the space...

Thanks for everyone's replies! I love the Uppababy vista, that was my dream buggy when pregnant with my first but was too expensive and the Occarro was a decent dupe! Still too expensive unfortunately.

I think the Joie Chrome might be the one for me, but want to try one out. There is a pram shop in a nearby city so we will have to go and see if they have one in!

Uppababy vista here too - love it!!

Inthesky42 · 21/01/2022 07:21

Uppababy vista. The absolute perfect buggy imo! Using it as a double now for my two!

Panda12345 · 21/01/2022 10:04

I love my Uppababy Vista too. Although now I have two in it it’s so heavy! Why did I never see anyone mention this??
Also borrowed a Yoyo when traveling and while I wouldn’t get it for a newborn still, I think it’s great from about 9 months

becca3210 · 21/01/2022 14:11

Keep an eye out on the mamas and papas website we got a really good ocarro bundle deal from there. They have a sale at the moment

KimDeals · 21/01/2022 14:17

The Bugaboo chameleon 2. Loved it. Perfect.
Can remember if it’s free standing, but it folds up well.
