Hi just wondering what other breastfeeding mum's do in regards to alcohol? Is it okay to have one drink? How much can you drink when breastfeeding? Thanks.

I drank in moderation the whole time I was breastfeeding. The midwife who led our antenatal course told me that very little alcohol goes into milk and that in order for it to hit levels where it would affect the baby, you’d have to be pretty drunk and so a bigger concern is actually whether you are too drunk too look after them properly. That said, I never had more than a couple of glasses, I usually had food as well and I tried to feed immediately before or even during drinking so that alcohol levels had fallen by the next feed.

You can actually drink quite a lot but don't feed while you're drinking as it can lower your inhibitions/you might fall asleep etc.
