Mum guilt

Not that big in the grand scheme of things but due to financial reasons, I can’t afford a reliable car. I have a good job but am single and pay full time nursery fees alone and am buying ex h out of the family home so am on a very tight budget. Plus, for remortgage purposes don’t want to have any credit.

My dad kindly loans me his old bmw to drive but it’s 21 years old! All I hear from mechanics is ‘oh it has a great engine for its age’ but it’s completely unreliable.

I don’t use it every day.

Anyway, today I was on my way to take my almost 4 year old to a birthday party. It’s his best friend from nursery and DS was so excited. He had been talking about it for about a month because it was at a theme park/land type place. He was singing the songs and watching the programmes this morning as was so excited.

Anyway, car broke down on the motorway. On grass verge for 4 hours waiting to be towed.

Distraught little boy.

He forgot about it soon enough but I can’t help feel that if his mum had money/wasn’t separated he wouldn’t be missing out.

I am just grateful that I got onto the hard shoulder safely as the car was smoking and losing power but I still have a little sadness that he was all excited and dressed up only to come back home again.

Your son has a mum that really cares about him and his well-being, that’s all he needs, sounds like you are doing a great job Flowers it’s very unlikely he will remember today anyway, but he will grow up feeling secure and loved. He doesn’t need money or you in the wrong relationship, he just needs YOU. Don’t feel bad
