Hi everyone,

My DD has been assed by SLT and she has a moderate speech delay '12 months - 'behind' - because it's only moderate they couldn't offer us help under the community SLT and said to come back in 6 months if there's not much change as then it would be considered a severe delay.

She has around 80 words, understands everything, is also being assessed for SCD.
Oh, and she has glue ear in both ears and is due a revisit next month.

I'm desperate for her to start talking, her Pre school are putting a plan in place to help her and I try my best at home with her, but I'm just wondering if there's anything in particular you found helpful?

I feel like a failure like it's all my fault. Her brother who is 3y 8m was speaking in full sentences by now and I can't help but worry about her.

You'd probably find getting grommets to sort the glue ear will solve the problem.

@Morechocmorechoc The Audiologist said that because glue ear can come and go and they don't know how long she's had it for they will need to recheck it again in 3 months (which will be February) if she still has Glue Ear he will refer her to the Ear snd Throat specialist who will decide what to do. He said this could take a year though.

My son has a speech delay and I have found it so difficult to find the relevant information I needed in order to help him, it took me a long time to understand what we could do at home to help support his speech development. To help others I have been creating a mobile app called Pippin to help parents of speech delayed children access information about how they can help speech development at home and track their child's speech progress. I am working with a few different specialists to create the content, the app is still in development but if you would like to know when it launches then please signup on my website: pippinspeech.com/

Can you afford to go private for an ENT to sort the hearing issue? A year is a LONG time for a child to not be able to hear properly.

Depending in her hearing you can ask for hearing aids. This would be my preference over grommets anyway.

Hi all,

She was seen in March and they said her hearing was fine but he was still going to refer us anyway.
She is improving with her speech, albeit slowly,
