I've done a really stupid thing! dp is away for a week so monday i did all the shopping etc, i've paid all the bills, paid the school, yesterday i was down to my last £5 til i get more money on friday and as the electric was running low i put the £5 on the electric key. Last night I realised I have forgotten ds's SMA milk!!!!! He's got about 2 bottles worth left! Mums at work all day so cant get to my bank dp is in a training centre in the middle of nowhere and the only neighbours we really know are away - Any suggestions??!!!

shop online - can use a card? got any mum friends you could borrow enough from?

anorak · 17/11/2004 09:17

Do you have any unopened purchases with receipt that you can return to a shop to get the money or credit note for the milk?

Could your neighbour os someone at school lend you the money? It is not as if you are going to disappear into the wide blue yonder with their money. Hope you work something out

JanH · 17/11/2004 09:19

Can you ring your HV and explain your dilemma and see what she can come up with? I know they probably don't have samples any more but maybe she could lend you the price of a tin.

Lonelymum · 17/11/2004 09:21

Shocking idea here, but how old is ds? If he is nearly one, you could just give him cow's milk. I ran out once when dd was about 11 months and did just that (but only for one feed).

anorak · 17/11/2004 09:23

Lonelymum, I can't see any harm in that if the child is old enough. If you can introduce new foods like yogurt to a child a few months' old, why not ordinary milk? The advice is not to depend on it for everyday use until 1 year, isn't it, not that you should never let it pass their lips?

zephyrcat · 17/11/2004 09:24

lol you wouldnt believe me if i told you ..... but here goes .... card is overdrawn(only got a debit card)...have only got a dvd i bought from tescos but i havent got cash to get into town and dont drive.....kids money is in a savings account we cant get to(and again in town)....dont know anyone except next door and they're away!....got no credit on mobile and house phone on incoming only...... Maybe we should issue a mn appeal to anyone near you that might be able to help?

Lonelymum · 17/11/2004 09:30

Do you buy the milk in a local shop where the people ther might recognise you? Could you go in and give them your story and see if they will let you have credit?

Titania · 17/11/2004 09:31

have you got a paypal account?

Lonelymum · 17/11/2004 09:31

Could you manage for a day and I could post some money to you?

Branster · 17/11/2004 09:31

do they come in smaller boxes (the SMA milk I mean) that would cost less than £5? I'd deffinetly ring the HV I'd imagine she'd at least let you borow some formula from the clinic.

zephyrcat · 17/11/2004 09:32

I thought about trying that lonelymum but we really only buy it from the big tesco superstore - the shop here charges £7 a tin!!
I feel like a prize prat!!

Offer still stands, but thinking about it, I think the best course of action would be to go to your HV. I am sure they have supplies of milk.

Titania · 17/11/2004 09:32

if you have a paypal account i could get some sent to you to transfer straight away?

cab · 17/11/2004 09:33

If there's a local shop you could explain your dilemna and see if they would let you either borrow their phone to arrange overdraft with bank or give you a loan - you could leave a valuable item as a deposit. Think the health visitor is probably a good bet. Ah you could e-mail the bank!! Another option might be a local taxi firm to take you into Tesco's on credit.

Branster · 17/11/2004 09:34

can you pay with a cheque and by the time it clears (at least 2 days I would have thought) you'd have time to put some money in your account.

zephyrcat · 17/11/2004 09:34

I do have paypal but it takes 5 days to transfer onto my card lol

Definitely go for local shop option even at £7 a tin it's probably cheaper and less hassle than trying to get to Tescos. Take some proof of where you live for them.

Titania · 17/11/2004 09:35

oh dear........

i think you should ring your HV.....I have rung mine before and she came out with a box for me....told me to pay it back the next week....

zephyrcat · 17/11/2004 09:36

i think my best bet is to try and text dp and see if he can borrow £10 and put it into my abbey account - that way i can get straight to it and keep my fingers crossed!!! Sorry to bombard you all with my stupidity first thing in the morning!! Thank you all for your help knew i could count on mn!!
