Breastfeeding and baby teeth! Ouch!

My 9m DS has just had his top and bottom two teeth and they are sharp! He bf evenings, mornings and a few top ups around food, often for comfort when he’s tired but lately he keeps accidentally nipping me Shock

Sometimes when startled and sometimes for no apparent reason. I’m nervous when I feed him now that he’ll do it again. Has anyone else had this? Do they grow out of it? I’d love any tips on positioning, teaching him no or protecting myself.

Yes although mine started biting at 4 months when her bottom teeth came in and she was still on 8 - 10 feeds a day!
If they bite:

  • try not to have a big reaction to the pain (which I know is hard!) as baby may bite just to get that reaction from you
  • use little finger in the mouth to unlatch them
  • tell them firmly 'no biting'
  • latch them again
  • if they bite again unlatch them again but this time put them on the floor and end the nursing session. They will soon learn not to bite!

Watch out for them getting bored at the end of a feed and deciding just to do it for fun.
