Whingey whiney 7.5 month old

Hi - my 7.5 month old had been whinging and whiney ALL day for a few weeks now. It’s driving me a little mad. Even at meal times she does it in high chair and purses lips and refuses to eat. Playing she just lays there and does it. Down for a nap she’ll do it for a while before falling asleep. She seems so unhappy. The only time she doesn’t do it is if I’m holding her and walking around. She’s not teething as is fed (with milk - I’m struggling to get her to eat solids) and clean nappy etc so not this. Anyone know why?

I’d make a doctor’s appointment and/or call the health visitor if it’s been weeks and it’s genuinely all day. Have you tried giving painkillers to see if there’s any improvement?

Frustration would be my bet. At 6-7 months my DS became a lot more switched on and wanted loads of stimulation (hence the only being happy being walked around) but didn’t have the physical ability to go and get it! It what spurs them on to crawl, when it’ll get better…before ramping up again when learning to walk.

Mine whined a LOT as older babies, more like 9 months though. They wanted to get around, they wanted my attention etc. It was SO frustrating.

If it's been weeks maybe get her checked out but it might just be developmental.

Thank you all - I might make a call. She is very nearly crawling and is a busy baby (loves to nosey around) so I think some of it is maybe frustration. And maybe she is teething. Her bottom ones came through at 6 months and maybe her top ones are on their way ever though I can’t see them yet.
I just feel like I can’t do anything to make her happy and it’s hard!!

Maybe she's hungry even though she won't eat the solids maybe the milk by itself isn't enough any more

My son is 7 and a half months and doesn't like lumpy food he's still just having purée and textured food rather than lumps or handfuls of stuff

Before he ate the purées he was very unhappy with just milk

I hope it gets better for you

@BabybabyCC This post came up as a suggestion, sorry to resurrect it but if you're still around OP, did you take LO to get checked in the end, or did it just stop? Currently going through the exact same situation and LO has been doing this for months in phases.

Why do you think it's not teething?

It will be, I'd put money on it

Marcipex · 29/12/2022 22:47

My first guess would be teething, second option a possible ear infection.
I think you need to get her checked to rule these out if simple measures eg Calpol make no difference.

bluebellaa · 29/12/2022 22:52

@Marcipex It's definitely not related to either for us.

My little boy is 7.5 months too and is now crawling around. He was getting so frustrated before that trying figure out how to get around. Maybe it’s that?
