My 2.5 year olds gums suddenly bleeding?

Yesterday evening my sons gums started bleeding during brushing. The same this morning brushing and then again tonight.
Either me or his dad brush his teeth twice a day. Maybe the odd morning missed but definitely not both brushes.

My son don't allow us to brush for 2 minutes but we get the tooth brush around the best we can.

It's also causing him discomfort when brushing because he cries. This only started with the bleeding.

Any advice please?

Could it be the start of hand foot and mouth? We had these symptoms a few weeks back and it was blisters on his gums.

Just checked his mouth again, no blisters. Although it does look a little inflamed but that may be from brushing. I will keep an eye for any blisters. Thank you.

Does he have dental check ups? Maybe a good idea to start if not.
