16mo - not walking!

Hello,

So my little girl turned 16 months today. She's been pretty spot on meeting all of her physical milestones until she hit 1.

She started pulling herself up from 14 months and cruising confidently along furniture around 15 months. She has just learnt to stand independently but only for a few seconds.

In terms of first steps, she's maybe moved 1 or 2 steps but nothing more, we try and encourage her but she's just not interested. She knows that she can get about quicker crawling or using her push along Walker.

Her social development is fab - she babbles all day long, points, plays, waves, smiles - social butterfly.

I spoke to my HV today as she wanted to see how my little girl was getting on walking independently and she said she wants to see my little girl in the person for a development review.

Should I be worried? I guess I'm looking for some reassurance xx

Ds first walked at 18 months and now he's 3 he runs around at pre-school just like all the others. If I told you he first walked at 10 months you'd have no reason not to believe me. My friend first walked at 2 and is now in her twenties and really successful and talented. Milestones don't matter imo, they get there when they get there.

My DC didn’t start walking until they were nearly 2. They’d caught up completely before they were 3 and are for and active at 5. No problems at all.

I don’t know how worrying it is - I had a complete meltdown with my HV at 16 months because he was just nowhere near walking. However, I would really encourage you to see a GP so if they think they need a referral, it gets the ball rolling.

My middle one did not start walking until he was just over 15 months. Also did not have any teeth until 15 months.

He’s a teenager now, walks and runs just fine and has all his teeth. 😁

Ds was a bear-walker. Or is it bear-crawler?? Anyway. Hand and feet rather than knees. Even when he could walk he’d drop down on all fours as soon as he needed speed. Usually to escape somewhere. Why stumble about when you can fly?? Two legs bad. Four legs better 😉

No and it's good she's pulling her self up and able to stand so she's capable of walking. Does she walk with you? It's definitely good to be checked out with hv but a lot of kids are more 18m

Thank you all so much for the replies

@workingtheusername Yeah we often hold her hands and she takes maybe a dozen steps before she just sits down and then crawls away haha

My DD was cruising confidently at 9 months, and finally let go and walked at 16-17 months. She's not the most physically confident even now she's 7. But she has other strengths and has no physical issues afaik.

I had 2 walking at 15 months, one at 11 months. They are all so different. It'll happen when they're ready 😊
