Out and about double vs Mountain buggy duet

Hi All,

We are expecting our second baby in a few months and we are wondering what buggy to get. Our DD is currently 22 months old and there will be 2 year gap between them.

Although I loved a vista or an i-candy peach and the tandem concept in theory, now I am not that sure that it works well.
One kid is always squished and most say that the tandem buggies are unstable in the double mode. Please advise if this is not the case.

We are planning to use the buggy only in the double mode for the next 2 years and I don't know if a tandem will be fit for purpose or if it will make our life a hell.

For this reason I started looking at twin buggies and I shortlisted the out and about double and the mountain buggy duet.

I know the mountain buggy is slimmer, heavier and more expensive vs the out and about that is wider, lighter and cheaper.

Also, our front door is just 73cm and the out and about is 72 cm! Would the out and about get in the house or would it get stuck?

Which one to choose? I really can't decide!

Check if the 72cm is at the widest part (usually the base of the handle) or the seats, usually narrower.

I really liked the out & about. However I also really loved the Phil& Ted. The older one LIVED to be in the back/underneath, which wasn't what I'd planned, but actually made life easier.

Mind you, where you're going to be using it makes a huge difference.

Have you considered a sling for the baby & a board for your DD & alternating which one is in the buggy?? That would be my choice these days

We don't use public transport, we live in a village close to a town and we have a car. Also, we won't go for shopping with the buggy as groceries are usually delivered to us. It may be the odd occasion that we are out for lunch and we may pop in a shop but this is not our everyday lifestyle.

We would normally use it for the nursery run, for weekend walks with the dog at the local park and for occasionally going at the local town center for a coffee/walk/lunch.

I considered a sling yes and I have one from my DD... but this period lasts for just a few months, same as when a carrycot is needed, but then what? I thought of a board but having a 2.5 year old at a board may be a bit premature or is it ok? And then, they may also fight on who will sit at the buggy?

I have no experience on having 2 kids, so I don't really know and you may are right!

Only 15 months between my two so a double was essential! I have a MB Duet and really like it. Yes it is a bit in the heavy side but not so heavy I can't lift it into the car myself. It is a dream to push and there hasn't been any doorway, shop, etc that I struggled to fit through. The basket is plenty big enough.

My older one naps happily in it if we are out all day and it's easy to get the seats up and down. The newborn carrycot/parent facing seat is narrow so if you have a higher centile baby I don't see them lasting in it very long so would probably just go with the world facing seat.

There are good second hand selling pages on Facebook for both the Out n About and the MB - either for buying or selling on if you do buy new, they both seems to hold quite a bit of value if you look after it.

Oh and I got a set of the aerotech wheels as I just couldn't be bothered with possible punctures or sliming the tyres

I loved my vista in double mode. I have 2 years between mine and used it with toddler seat and carry cot for 6 months then back to single with a buggy board after that.

It was so sturdy and easy to push with both in there. Neither were squashed or uncomfy.

I liked that I could put it back to single mode really easily and leave the toddler seat at nursery. I found side by sides hard to balance with a big and little one of with just one in.

Double vista is very stable and neither is squished at all. Nothing to compare it to but it's been good for us. Youngest is now one year and I'm looking to downgrade to something simpler / smaller. But the vista has been great this last year.
