Restarting breast feeding

Hi all

I reluctantly stopped feeding my son from from my breasts about a week after he was born as my nipples were just too sore and we weren't sure he was getting enough milk as he was losing weight. Since then he's been having formula with about one bottle of expressed breast milk a day.

Expressing is now becoming difficult as my nipples as becoming cracked and sore. I've only hand expressed for the last few days so my nipples are mostly recovered. I was thinking of trying to restart feeding him from the breast using nipple shields in addition to formula. Has anyone got and experience of successfully reintroducing the breast for at least some feeds or did you have supply issues after not feeding for so long? It's been about 4 weeks since he fed directly from the breast.

Thanks in advance.
