Toddler viral infection.. bizarre temperature pattern

Has anyone’s toddler ever had a viral infection with a bizarre temperature pattern? And how long did it last?

My 2 year old has been ill since Tuesday. His temp sky rocketed Wednesday and wouldn’t come down with Calpol/Nurofen and he was getting shivery so we took him to a&e. They checked him over and said it looks like a viral infection as his nose, throat, wee etc was all clear - he does have a cough & snotty nose.

He literally is going all day fine, no temperature and we think he’s on the mend, then the afternoon hits and his temperature starts going up and into the evening. Some nights he’ll have a temp & some nights he won’t. Has anyone’s little one had a pattern like this? We really thought it was going to be better tonight as he’s been ok majority of the day but he’s awake now with a temp of 39/40 which is slowly coming down with Nurofen x

My youngest often spikes a temp 1-2 degrees higher in the evening. More so when they are under the weather or I'll buy can happen when we'll. she's ten now and been doing it since she was tiny.

Same story for us with higher night temp. If you remain worried do take him back to A&E or ring 111 for advice again. They're very good with little ones and things can change quickly at that age.
