Why does my baby do this?

Hi my baby constantly puts his hand in his mouth and plays with his tongue. He doesn't seem to be chewing on it. Just feeling mainly. He also doesn't seem to "play" with toys. He just tried to ram them in his mouth and then cries in frustration?is it normal?

Could he be teething?

SuperSleepyBaby · 29/12/2021 14:38

Sounds normal - they chew on their hands for a good while and don’t really care about toys.

Starcaller · 29/12/2021 14:39

Just what babies do! They are exploring their bodies and senses. Everything goes in the mouth!

How old is he?
He's probably just curious.
Has he found his feet yet? My DD found that fascinating for days ... and then discovered she had another one!

Fallagain · 29/12/2021 14:40

How old is he? Its normal for young babies to explore things by putting them in their mouths.

Mrsmch123 · 29/12/2021 14:47

He's 6 months. Yeh to the feet. He's been exploring them for about 2 months but now he can get them in his mouth they are never out🙈he also spends ages looking at his hands, turning them back and forwards.

God! He’s only 6 months!! Mine didn’t play with their toys till around 2. Totally normal! They play with their mouth/hands and dribble because of teething but also in preparation for eating solids.

Their own hands and feet are ideal toys at that age. Smile

BertieBotts · 29/12/2021 15:54

Their mouths are more sensitive than their hands and they are much better at controlling their tongues to feel things than they are their fingers. Don't worry, it's normal, he's just getting to know his body, very important.

Just wait until he discovers his willy :o

Babies mouths are their main sense at this age. It's how they explore everything and completely normal.
