Cradle cap

My daughter has had cradle cap for the last couple months and is showing no signs of getting better. It’s spreading to her forehead and her eyebrows. I’ve tried a few things that have been recommended but nothing has worked and it just looks so bad. Any ideas on what would actually work. Or is it a doctors trip? Thanks

I used dentinox on dd2 as I'd tried the oil and brushes things. Used it a few times and the cradle cap cleared. She's teenage now and didn't have any further skin issues through her childhood.

Olive oil (loads of it) massage it really well to soften the flakes. Then use a comb to brush all the flakes out.
I only had to do this once or twice and it never came back. My sons head was quite red after I did this but it calmed down quickly and wasn’t bothering him at all.

Very gently rub Weleda baby oil in, leave over night and wash very gently with a flannel. The cradle cap will just slide off. My baby had sensitive skin but this seemed fine.

@Bubblesxox you can always try the allergy uk helpline it you don't get anywhere with health visitor. Poor baby that sounds tough! My son was breastfed and the allergens in my diet were making them unwell, but GP kept dismissing me saying that wasn't possible!

@forcedfun

Yeah she hasn’t had the best starts to life bless her.
She spent the first month or two really constipated. Maybe going once every 3 days. Now it’s like water. I haven’t changed the formula with health visitors advice. So yeah maybe I’ll push to see if there is an allergy there!

Just want to say that my DS had severe cradle cap too and no amount of using olive oil or brushing could shift it.
He has eczema too and we were prescribed dermol 500 and 600 to use in the bath. This cleared his cradle cap within 2 weeks, and it was there for months!

Definitely do @Bubblesxox that's what my son's nappies were like. He wasn't a happy baby at all, but now you would never know!

Someone else already said it, but Loyon is unbelievably amazing. Nothing else worked but this cleared basically a whole head (and eyebrows) of cradle cap in about 3-4 applications. It never came back and it's been over 2 years since and I still remember how brilliant it was.

I put Vaseline on my babies head and left it overnight. The cradle cap came off really easily

ArnoldBee · 29/12/2021 01:15

I would leave it for a few days and then choose one method and take it from there.

Nothing worked for my DD but eventually she grew out of it. The oil made it worse in her case, I think Capasal shampoo was good but no idea if it is still available, you had to ask for it.
