Baby sleep routine (or lack thereof)… help!

First time parents and failed to implement any kind of sleep routine until now… and she’s 6 months eek.

She slept through the night from 3 months to 4.5 months and has been up 2-3 times a night to feed since then. She sleeps in our bed more than her next to me because shes so fussy in the next to me (still in the next to me as she was preemie so although 6 months, shes still little and can’t sit up yet).

She also still stays up with us in the evening and then goes to bed with us… not ideal.

Can anyone advise how we could start implementing a sleep routine?

The last couple of days, we have tried to put her in her crib in her own room for an evening snooze around 8pm, falls asleep in our arms and sleeps for a maximum of 10 minutes in the crib before waking and crying. Then by 9:15 we usually give up and bring her back downstairs. How can we do this better?

Thanks in advance for any help you give.

Ideally you want baby to fall asleep where she’s going to stay asleep, so in her crib not your arms. She’s waking up soon after wondering where she is. I done pick up put down method with my DD which worked for her.

As a side note my DD was in her big cot from 3 months (in my room) as she hated the Moses basket. She was also preemie and unable to sit at 6 months (she was about 14lbs) but that doesn’t mean she needs to stay in the Next to Me!

I would start by waking her up at 7am, if she's 6 months, I would say her awake window is 2h, so 2h after wake up, it's time for her first nap, then again 2h after she's woken up and again 2h after she's woken up.

I would not let her sleep past 5pm for her to go to sleep at 7pm. Always have the same bedtime routine, bath, book, milk, sleep (or something similar).

Naps are always in the cot for us, when he was tiny we contact napped but not at 6 months. As PP said, with my first I did pick up, put down but wasn't needed with this one as I started from day dot for him to sleep in the cot.
