7 week old development

Hi, my 7 week old baby is very alert but mostly wants to stare at his surroundings, he will definitely smile and kind of laugh but mostly at the walls and lights. He doesn’t make eye contact for long. Is this normal? Sorry if I’m worrying unnecessarily but the doctor at his 6 week check said he should be smiling and gazing into my eyes by 8 weeks.

He was born at 38 weeks and had bad colic for a while which seems to have mostly settled itself but I dunno if that affects it?

All sounds very normal and no one (even drs) can give a specific age when children will do anything. It's all a rough estimate. Better to speak to your health visitor with concerns as they are the specialists.

My baby was the same at 7 weeks, there was a big change in his awareness by 8 weeks.
