hi all, my 13month old had a really bad sickness bug over the weekend (scared me half to death as its the first time he has been ill). he seemed to recover fairly quick - stopped being sick by saturday night - but now he has gone from being a great eater (3 meals a day - good bowlful at each - snacks too!) to hardly eating at all ( a few mouthfuls if im lucky). he is back to normal in every other way so surely he should be eating better. im currently not forcing the issue as i dont want it to become a major "thing" for him - just offering diffeent things throught the day (most of which he wont even try) but im starting to get worried now.
has anyone else had this , how long did it go on for?

thanking you all in advance.

Sounds normal ime.

As long as he is drinking well (breast/formula milk and some water) then I wouldn't worry too much atm.

Is he weeing normally?

Really common for them to lose their appetite. Try not to worry. As long as he is drinking fluids then that is the main thing. It will come back....prob with a vengeance!!My dd was ill not that long ago and it was over 2 weeks really before she got back to three meals a day.

thanks - yep weeing normally - dirty nappies whole other matter - loose and milky but probably due to lack of bulk and not taking much but milk and water eh?

We have had the same bug. My 16 month old was being sick from Thursday night til Saturaday, and his appetite has not returned to normal yet.

I also had the bug on sat and sunday and my appetite is still off too

My DD is not the best eater. She frequently goes through bouts of not eating much at all and at the first sign of an illness she wont eat a thing. As long as he is drinking and weeing I wouldnt be too concerned. When DD is like this I offer her small regular meals rather than the 3 meals a day she would normally have. We normally eat at the table but this causes too much stress when she is off her food so I just follow her round the house with chunks of cheese and raisins, etc.

Re: the poo. I would imagine tats more to do with the bug working through than the lac of bulk. I would suggest you call NHS direct or your GP for advice on that because they may want to see him if it continues for longer than a certain period of time.

It took my DD 6 weeks after a D&V bug at 11.5months to even really contemplate food again. We are still struggling and when they turn one they do tend to eat less as their growth slows down.
