4 month old cough medicine

As title, my 4mo has a nasty cough and I've been giving her childrens cough medicine that I bought from Tesco for babies 1 month +. However my DH just told me that he has googled and apparently it isnt ok to give babies cough medicine??

I might be being extremely thick but the ingredients just seem to be sugar so I can't work out why it isnt ok.

Does everyone else avoid it??

TIA

I thought you couldn't give cough medicine to under 6s. Try vicks on their feet, sounds weird but it worked for us.

Decongestants can no longer be bought for children but a lot of childrens cough medicine is just glycerine.

The stuff for babies is fine to give if it says it's for that age group. The stuff for age 6+ will be marked on the packaging and can contain antihistamines rather than just being a sugary glycerine mix.

And vicks isn't supposed to be used under the age of 2. You do get baby versions e.g. snufflebabe

Yeah that's what we used

Our paediatrician told us never to give anything like syrup because the cough has a job to do so you shouldn’t suppress it.
Doesn’t seem ideal to give a baby something with sugar either.
Cough syrup is apparently also pretty pointless for adults.
