Child overdosed on multivitamins - had 10 gummies.

Feeling like the worst parent in the world, I gave him 1, then baby started screaming due to constipation, put it down, he grabbed the pack without me noticing and ran into the play room. I thought he was being silly and cheeky for some reason but not that. He Came back and I managed to get two More out of his mouth but it was a new pack so I know he's had 10.

It's wellkid peppa gummies, a-e vits. We even say: only 1 a day, and he knows. He is 2, 3 in January. I called 111 and waiting for a callback.

Anyone had anything similar? Im worried about toxic reactions.

One of mine ate an entire pot, the little sod! They were fine. (Not advocating that this makes it ok of course).

Itslit · 23/12/2021 12:09

I’ve done this, my child ate a whole pack. Called 111 and all was fine.

gemloving · 23/12/2021 12:39

111 rang me back, they said he would have to have eaten 100 of them to cause any real harm. I'm supposed to keep an eye on him but the doctor said it's very unlikely there will be any side effects.

Thanks for your support. This is the reason why I love mumsnet. Love & support - keep doing what you're doing x

This thread is nearly a year old ... I think the kid is probably fine!

@sanityisamyth , that poster is asking about their own child, not replying to the OP! Grin

A one off double dose in a day is nothing to worry about. Skip tomorrow's if it makes you feel safer.

Theyorkshirelass · 10/11/2022 20:08

I had this once-I’d just bought them and left my bag in the lounge while I went back to the car for the rest of the shopping
mad dash to a&e-was told they’d just wee out what their bodies didn’t want
they where fine-I was told if they’d been iron tablets, that’s when I should have worried-but these where basically sweets
this was 20+ years ago and they had no ill effects

It should be fine but as ever, if you're worried call 111.

I feel like responding again on this if this happens to anyone. I am not sure anymore whether we went or A&E or I just had a GP on the phone but they calculated how much he had and we're not concerned, they said at the time that he might have diarrhoea which he did and can be slightly irritable which he was but all good. Happy 3 year old at home Biscuit

@gemloving just incase you weren't aware the use of the Biscuit on Mumsnet is a sign you're being sarcastic. Here have a biscuit and shut up kind of thing Biscuit it's a jammy dodger not a flower

Hawkins001 · 27/11/2022 15:18

I believe you just end up with tango wee. Or a strong yellow variant

I understood (from a medical friend) that you just wee out excess multivitamins. So see what 111 says but try not to worry too much OP Flowers

Depends on the vitamins. A D E K are fat soluable and not peed out (dr)

ImissSclub7 · 27/11/2022 15:23

Biscuitandacuppa · 23/12/2021 11:14

Most likely he will be absolutely fine, he will probably just wee out the excess vitamins.

We were taught this at uni for water soluble ones. For the fat soluble A,D,E,K (excuse me if I'm wrong) they would be more a problem but have to be excessive amounts. If you're worried you could always phone GP surgery?

ImissSclub7 · 27/11/2022 15:24

Sorry I cross posted there

maslinpan · 27/11/2022 15:34

Back in the 70s child aspirin was made in fruity flavours to make it more palatable. My cousin had to have her stomach pumped when she ate a big handful of them. The adults only knew about it when I whined about it being unfair that sheds had the orange sweeties...

Thanks for this thread. Happened to me this morning with my 3 year old and I asked my gp and pharmacist. They said should be ok
