Advice about childminder

Hi!
So today we left our baby first time at the childminder - a really nice lady - and he loved it. We did have a little problem when we came back to pick him up though - other childminder was there with her babies when we picked him up and one boy (1 year old) was sleeping in a car seat in a puffy coat. So obviously first - baby left to sleep in a car seat and second - baby in a car seat in puffy jacket. Do you think I’m overreacting? Obviously I’m really worried, because it’s a first time leaving him with someone else than us, but wouldn’t like to leave him in unsafe situation.

Had they actually been anywhere in the car? If not the coat isn’t really an issue, it’s only a problem if they are travelling in the car. The childminder would usually discuss with parents where they are happy for their child to sleep. Advisable or not, I know some parents do out their child to nap in the car seat, perhaps that’s the only place they will nap! So if the parents have suggested it or at least said it’s ok to the CM, again I don’t think it’s a problem.

You can of course make it clear where you are happy for your son to sleep.

If the little boy had been travelling in the car in a puffy jacket to me that’s more serious as it suggests the CM doesn’t understand the dangers of that.

I wouldn’t be happy with this. The advice is for babies not to sleep in car seats, it can restrict their air ways. I would just say the to the childminder “I saw X sleeping in the car seat with his coat on. We don’t let our DS in the car seat with his coat on or to sleep in the car seat and I’d appreciate if you’d do the same”. You’ll know from her reaction if she’s the right one for you. You need to be clear - in a polite way - from the start.

Hi,
Yes, they’ve been in a car before and the boy fell asleep like this during the ride, so he had his jacket on the whole time.
I will have a chat with her on the next settling in session, hopefully she will be quite reassuring, because I don’t want to be worried the whole time and it seemed like a perfect match.

I’d be worried about this. Firstly that a coat had been worn in a car seat and secondly that baby had been left to sleep like that.
