Went to a Christmas light up trail yesterday it cost a fortune and frankly left me feeling cold and depressed !! Everyone there seemed to having a great time so I know it's just me but I went because it's Christmas and you have to do a light trail right.?!

Well, no. You don't have to do a light trail...whatever that is. There are plenty of lights in the street for free! People usually just drive around and look at the free ones in my world!

Then if you can afford it, you get takeaway and go home! The fad for Christmas events is a very new one in the Uk...breakfast with Father Christmas, Christmas "markets" and all that...what's wrong with seeing him in the local church hall? And doing other festive things like making cards at home and then going to post them in the post box!? Those are my teens best memories of Christmas.

I like light trials but that’s just me. In fact, I prefer them more without my kids in tow 😂 cos frankly, they are less keen. My toddler likes the lights but my 4 year old thinks it’s boring.

Do what you like at Christmas. That’s the nice thing. I like lights but I’m quite happy having a neighbourhood walk & looking at all the houses! I like taking my kids to see Santa, so we go. Just once, they don’t need to see multiple santas! It’s not a ‘perfect’ day though. It was cold & damp. My toddler had 500 meltdowns, my 4 year old was crazy hyper & annoying 😂 I had a stiff drink when I got home! But they won’t remember the rain or tantrums, they’ll remember seeing the big man!

You do you. Whatever memories you think you & your kids will look back on & treasure.

@Bobholll yes on reflection I think I would have preferred it with another adult ! My dd was slightly bored and cold. At least we could have had a nice glass of wine in the outdoor bar!

Agree with fortunes. They seem like a new way to extort money fab. We've always driven around to see the local lights and Santa was always at Playgroup or the School Christmas Fair. Don't think the kids were in any way deprived by doing that.
