Toddler- suspected asd hearing tests...

My twins have had their hearing tested they do both show signs of asd. But during hearing test my son didnt really turn to any sounds or anything. He had movement in left ear but congestion in right. If he isnt turning to any noises how will they know if its his hearing or he is just ignoring?

You can ask for an ABR test, during which he’ll be asleep (ideally naturally, if possible), and they’ll attach electrodes to his head, play sounds to him, and see whether or not his brain is receiving the sound. But they might want to do some more booth tests first. Do push for answers though.

My DD passed the newborn hearing screen, no history of deafness in our family, yet she has actually been profoundly deaf since birth. She has a condition called auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, in which the defect in the hearing pathway is further along that where the newborn screen checks (if that makes sense). When she was 9 months I flagged up with the GP that I didn’t think she could hear, and it took until she was 13 months to get the diagnosis (after having the ABR test I mentioned above).

Do you think he can hear? Does he respond to sounds at home? My daughter never did, although she was very visually aware. Once we noticed it it was very obvious that she was completely deaf.

Thanks they did say they would redo hearing test at some point but the lady that did it said she 'presumes' he just doesnt want to participate.... i dont like the sound of presumptions. But would be interested to know if anyone with a toddler with asd had similar experience?
