Going no where. Stuck dead. 8mo fast asleep since 10pm when we set off.....

It's going to be OK right?

Dc is snoring so still alive.... WTF do I do?

We have an hour left to travel...

If you’re stuck dead, turn off the engine, quietly get the baby out and hold her upright until you start moving again.

Ahblahblablah · 18/12/2021 00:18

We've started moving again.... Do you think it'd be OK to carry on for another hour?

I would absolutely carry on as long as I could hear the baby snoring.

The advice is for tiny babies not to be in for long because they can’t hold their head up long enough to maintain airway. An 8m old is going to be fine. If they are screaming and uncomfortable and the car had stopped I might get them out to stretch but fast alsleep, no way.

Doveyouknow · 18/12/2021 00:21

It will be fine to carry on with an 8 month old.

I've driven for hours with younger babies. Why would it not be?

Ahblahblablah · 18/12/2021 00:22

Oh amazing. Didn't realise that. I assumed they had to get out every two hours until 1!!!

Mu husbands going to kill me when he finds out we've been stopping unnecessarily all this time 😂

Maybe I'm behind the times. Hope you got home safely.

jupitermars1345 · 18/12/2021 13:05

It's fine. At 8 months he can support his head and airways. I wouldn't think twice about how long he had been in it

gogohm · 18/12/2021 13:12

8 months? I took a 3000 mile road trip when dd was 5 months! Up to 6 hours a day in the car, typically 5 hours. She's just fine all grown up

soughsigh · 18/12/2021 17:34

At 8 months we did 4 hours to my mum's overnight without stopping. DS slept... didn't realise the 2 hour advice was for under 1s.

I wouldn't wake a sleeping baby for the sake of an hour.

Part of the reason for the short limit, is to stop people just leaving their kids in car seats all the time. Some people leave them in them all the time,as it contains them so well...

An odd 2+hr stint is fine, especially at 8m!
