19 month old speech

Anyone have a 19 month old with hardly any words?

My DD can say:-
Mama
Dada
Ba (for ball)
Bath (well, not the full word but close enough)
Vroom for car
A bunch of animal sounds

Keep reading only she should have at least 20 words at this point.

She points, claps, waves and understands complex instructions. No concerns over her hearing or understanding.

Should I be contacting HV at this point or is it normal? People keep acting surprised at her lack of speech.

She was 4 weeks premature if it’s relevant.

@Caspianberg @lllllllllll Those we're all examples given to me by the HV and other early years input as reasons why she might be delayed. Mainly the lack of contact with other adults and other children.

@PissedOffNeighbour22 my DD is 20 months old. She doesn’t have a lot of contact with other adults and children, but has about 50 words that I know she’s picked up entirely from me (I hear her copying me when I say things). I agree with others that your HV sounds wide of the mark on this one. They all get there in their own time, but TV, nursery and contact with other family members have very little to do with it IMO!

@Vicky1989x how is ur daughter now? Is she speaking now?

ForeverTired89 · 30/01/2023 21:42

@Bravosmith She is, and doesn’t stop! Still
only had a handful of words at 2, but had a huge explosion in her speech at around 2y1m. She’s now 2y9m and can talk for England!
