Hi all, I've got an upset tummy and I'm just wondering what this means for my 5 week old? Can I keep breastfeeding or will whatever's causing my upset stomach affect his?

You should definitely keep breastfeeding. If you’ve got a virus he’ll be exposed anyway, and he’ll get antibodies through your milk that will help him.

Keep feeding. Make sure you are very careful about hand washing and drink loads of water. If your express you will notice your milk may look slightly blue as you will be producing extra antibodies in your milk.

You can keep breastfeeding just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly and drink lots of fluids.

Sorry you’re ill. Keep feeding! And eat and drink whatever you can so you don’t feel too drained. Plain carbs and plenty of water or black tea.

Feel better soon.

Of course you can, I’ve bf all 4 of mine with no formula at all, whether I’ve been ill or not.

DramaAlpaca · 13/12/2021 22:59

Yes, it's fine. As has been said, make sure you are taking in lots of fluids.

Ugh OP breastfeeding with an upset tummy is so hard - I know from experience! It's fine to breastfeed (also a little formula now if you really can't manage to make every breastfeed)

Good luck and get well soon!
