Baby Bjorn carrier one/carrier questions

We have a baby Bjorn carrier one and I just cannot get on with it!
It's the first time we have had a carrier (this is our second child). Everytime I wear it my son looks like he is too close to my chest and I get too worried to wear it in case he gets too warm or struggles with breathing.
I've spent ages adjusting it and watching videos.
Should baby's head be to the side in the carrier? He seems to keep straightening his head and then this blocks his nose slightly.
Also, for those who have the carrier one..when did you fold down the top section on the carrier please?

I have this carrier.. I think their head is supposed to be close to your chest, my LO used to fall asleep with his head to the side and looked comfy. He only faces outwards now as he hates facing in.. I think I folded the panel down when he was around 4.5 months, when he had good head control.. but if he was sleeping I'd leave it up.

Just to add he doesn't sleep in it now as it's not recommended they sleep when outward facing!

Hello. I'd recommend seeing if there is a sling library near to you. They will adjust your carrier to ensure it's fitted right and shoe you how to adjust it. Made all the difference to me!
