Taking forever to fall asleep. Help!

My just-about-to-turn 5 year old takes up to 2 hours to fall asleep. She'd be in bed by 8. Will still be awake at 9.30 or later.

Her brain works 100 miles per hour and she comes up with all sorts of questions or thoughts and she just doesn't know how to switch it off. Obviously she's 5.
It's not always been like that. The last year or so. She's not tired in the morning and gets up/wakes up easily at 7.30am for school. But I want her to have good 11 hours sleep like she used to and of course my evenings are much shorter because she's not asleep!

We've tried tons of ideas. Even reading in the dark to her doesn't work cos she comes up with all sorts of questions and comments about the story! Hmm Doesn't like relaxing music because it makes her sad Shock

So, wise mums, please advise!

Thanks!

My son is the same age and he can be like this.

The rule is that he stays in his room and is quiet (so as not to wake his younger sister in the room next door)

He has several flap books about how things work that he likes to look at in bed. His reading is coming along but he just looks that these pictures in bed.

That or he will build a train set.

Would those things work for her?

Does she get enough exercise? She should be getting at least an hour a day but many kids need a lot more.
